... The Need ...
Family members need to stay in touch , especially when they are
scattered across the country - or across the globe. The Web
already facilitates this via Email, chat rooms, and Web phones.
But here's a new, and more powerful solution .....

... The Solution ...
In this Web application, each family member has a personal
Web page they can update at any time with
photos, a biography, current activities, or
contact information. All this is stored in a database.
Members can view each other's page, and can view and
update a shared "calendar of events". Members
can also chat - as a group or privately, send an Email to several
(or all) members, or print a "geneology tree".
The site requires a password protected login.
Members can view only pages within their own family.
Non members visiting the site can view only a standard
demo page, or list other existing family names (but no details),
or can set up their own family via the Web.
Extensive online help would be needed, and a "site manager"
(chosen by the family) appointed to handle simple problems
like helping other members resize their photos for uploading.

... Reusing the code ...
To see the original ASP + VBscript code, you can't
simply save source from your browser. (You would see
only the generated Html.) So instead.....
Contact the author
Save the source code onto your PC's hard disk
Open the saved file in your word processor

... How it works ...
The "Family Web Site" is one more way to use "Web-based content management"
to enable a "self-building" site. (Also see "The Info Exchange"
and "The Idea Factory".)
The power of this conceptis that with a single set of
Asp / VBscript modules, and a single database, a potentially
huge number of customized pages can be generated for an
unlimited number of families.
Monthly billing could be based on the number of family members
stored in the database. Even a very low rate (25 cents per month per
member, or $3 per year) could produce a large profit for the site owner.
How many families in the U.S. have at least 5 members
with a Web connection?
